I learned this through experience.  In 1984, I accepted my first position in the legal profession as a clerk in a small law firm.  Since that time, I worked in-house at a large corporation, then at a large law firm, then as a solo practitioner and now as a partner in my own firm.   In doing so, I gained experience in many areas of law: commercial litigation, criminal law, personal injury, bankruptcy, and estate planning to name a few.   I have represented clients ranging from individuals and small businesses to Fortune 500 companies.

My experience taught me a few things.  First, clients are better served by being represented by an attorney that concentrates in a certain area.   However, it is very difficult to find that lawyer.   I also learned that the biggest complaint clients have is that their attorney does not provide enough communication as to the progress of their matter.
